Interview with Possessed Demoness who handles vocals, instruments for Anguished done by Patrick late December 2010..

Anguished is a new band that has been impressing us here at Canadian Assault. So contact was made in the dead of night with this great new black metal band from Finland. A country with a rich history in the musical black arts...

Dark greetings Demoness!! How are things in Finland? Please tell the readers a little about yourself.

Hail! Finland is covered by snow right now, there's lots of it! Very Scandinavian winter it has been. About myself... Well I'm a little disturbed musician living my blackened life in Helsinki with 3 cats. Beside cats, music fills my life completely. Couldn't live a day without it.

At what age did you first start listening to metal? Who were some of the first bands you listened to? Who are some of your "current" favorite bands?

I think I was 11 or something when I heard first time Sepultura! But later I found some Finnish band like old Amorphis and Sentenced. BM came some years later. I listen to many bands but lately I've been listening a lot of bands like Valoton, Shining, Heresi, Burzum, old Katatonia, etc...

When did you get the idea to create "Anguished" are you happy with how everything is going with the band so far? For the readers who have never heard anguished how would you describe the music?

I have been thinking a long time to start a band, but two years ago I just decided to do it for real now. I had some songs written and that's how it started. I am very satisfied with the things that have happened to Anguished. The music is very disturbed, dark and my possessed vocals gives an unique touch to them.

With the help of a session-drummer {Mental Penetrator} you are the sole member of the band. When you started anguished did you plan to work alone or have you searched for other members?

I knew from the beginning that I would need a drummer and it was really hard finding it, 'cause no one believed that a girl could make BM. First I thought that I would take a vocalist there too, but then decided to sing myself, 'cause finding a drummer was so hard. Luckily Mental Penetrator is mentally very ill, so he didn't care and I got my session drummer!

What do you think are the advantges and disadvantges to being a one-woman band? What do you feel was the easiest and the hardest instrument to learn to play? And if you had the opportunity to work with any musicians {past or present} who would you like to work with?

The concept is very rare and that is an advantage and disadvantage. But I don't really care about this kind of stuff. I just play and enjoy it. It doesn't make difference what people think about it. Playing any instrument comes very naturally and I learn fast, but I'm learning drums right now and that's hard! But I enjoy it still. Maybe one day I can play drums too. I am very satisfied with the musicians that I'm working with right now.

You recently released your debut cd "Cold" through the mighty Hammer of Hate records in Finland. How long did the writing and recording process take for this release? Are you happy with how everything turned out? How has the response been from the press and fans?

Like I earlier said, I had few songs ready, but I made some new songs too and finished the ones that were ready. That took only a week or something. The recording process took maybe a month or two... But I was in a hospital in that time too, 'cause I got my hand operated. The label was found quite quickly. I really didn't expect that the media would be so interested in the band! I have given very many interviews and there are reviews all around the world.

How did you come into contact with hammer of hate? Are you satisfied with the label so far?

I just sent a few e-mail to some labels and I was surprised how easy that was. I got a positive answer from HoH and yes, I am very pleased with the label so far.

Your vocals are some of the most tormented and intense I have heard in quite some time. When did you become interested in singing?

This kind of singing started just before the recording! I tried some different voices, but this one was the only that gave you chills and creeps.

Who are some of your influences/favorite singers? Also do you do anything special to keep your throat/voice healthy?

I don't do anything to keep my voice healthy, maybe the opposite! Sick voice don't need healthy! I really like the vocals in bands like, Behexen, Burzum, Nifelheim, Nekrokrist SS, etc.

Are you currently working with any other bands or solo projects? If yes please tell the readers a little about them.

I have this dark ambient project now with my friend, but we are still writing the songs. Probably it won't be published, but never know.

You live in the great country of Finland. Finland has always had a strong black, death metal underground scene. Would you agree? What is your opinion of Finland's metal scene?

I agree that the Finnish scene is a great when it comes to metal. There are really many awesome black metal bands and I'm very proud to be one of them.

Who are some of your all-time favorite Finnish bands? Are their any new bands the readers should watch out for?

I could list here all the Finnish BM bands, 'cause there are so many great ones... But I could mention few like Goatmoon, Azahgal and Beherit.

If you don't mind a few personal questions I was kind of curious the lyrics seem to be based around/on occult/satanism. When did you become interested in studying satanism/the occult? Would you consider yourself a Satanist?

I worship Satan. I live the way of Black Metal and that includes Satanic and occultic things.

Coming back to music for a moment everyone has their own ideas/opinion on what black metal means. So I was curious of yours. In your opinion what does "black metal" mean to you?

Black Metal is not just music, it is a way of living. I'm not afraid to show the world that I hate christianity and have this kind of life style. Black Metal comes from your heart and soul and it will stay there.

Well  Possessed Demoness we have reached the end of the interview. Thank you for taking the time to fill this out. Do you have any final comments for the readers?

Hail Satan and support black metal! Love your friends and hate your enemies.
